HIV Prevention and Care Initiative for IDUs

HIV Prevention and Care Initiative for IDUs Targeted Intervention on Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) by DSACS & NACO

Under the guidance and support of the Delhi State AIDS Control Society (DSACS) and the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Samanvit Shiksha Sansthan (SSS) has been implementing a Targeted Intervention (TI) Program for Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) in Delhi. The initiative focuses on reducing the risk and vulnerability of HIV transmission among high-risk groups through a comprehensive harm reduction and healthcare support approach.
The program aims to reach and support IDUs by providing essential services such as counselling, HIV testing, needle-syringe exchange, opioid substitution therapy (OST), condom distribution, and linkages to healthcare and rehabilitation facilities. In addition, awareness sessions, community meetings, and peer-led outreach activities are conducted to promote behavioural change, encourage safe practices, and build trust within the community.
Through the continued efforts of field teams, counsellors, and peer educators, the intervention not only addresses immediate health needs but also supports long-term rehabilitation and social reintegration. The initiative stands as a testament to the collective commitment of DSACS, NACO, and Samanvit Shiksha Sansthan in curbing HIV/AIDS transmission and improving the quality of life of vulnerable populations, thereby contributing to a healthier and more inclusive society.
